Honesty: Ohhhh Gum Balls!
Have student(s) write down as many lies as they can think of that they have told. Tell them that the more they write down, the more candy they will get. Give them about 5 minutes to do so and assure them that what they write down will not be shared or seen by anyone.
Once the time is up, have the student(s) count how many were written down. Give each student that amount of gum balls they earned.
Have them read their list to themselves and for every lie told, tell them to think about the situation, what lie they told and their consequence. With each one they read they should be putting a gum ball in their mouth.
While they are trying to chew them ask them the following:
What did you learn from this lesson?
If you knew what was coming, would you have written as many lies down?
What do you know for sure that will happen after you tell a lie?
What are your consequences?
How is the consequence of a lie similar to the problem in your mouth?
Allow for an open discussion or comments.
At the end of the activity, have them place their gum in the trash and allow them to shred their own paper. As the paper is getting shredded, say: "NO MORE LIES!"
